After renting out his exclusive Tampa mansion to the newly minted Tampa Bay Buccaneer Tom Brady, New York Yankee legend Derek Jeter has made his next move. He’s now listed his custom-designed private estate on Davis Islands for $29 million.

Jeter had apparently negotiated favorable terms for his A-list tenants. Brady and his wife, Gisele Bündchen, knew that there was a possibility the home could hit the market while they were living there, according to a story in the New York Times, which first reported the news of the listing.

It may be an ideal time to place this immense piece of property up for sale—given how much publicity the home has grabbed since the quarterback moved in.

One thing is sure—there won’t be any weekend open houses for lookie-loos to traipse through this megamansion.

“Tenant-occupied homes are typically more difficult to show. And when you have a tenant-occupied property like this, it is truly a whole new ball game,” says Cara Ameer, a licensed real estate agent in California and Florida.

She added, “I’m sure there must be a lot of restrictions as to when it can be shown, if in fact Brady and his family are still there.”

With its prestigious athletic pedigree, the home is ideally suited to a superstar.

Built on 345 feet of open bay, it is the “largest ever assembled waterfront property on Davis Islands,” the listing notes.

The upscale enclave is located just off downtown Tampa, a quick walk, bike ride, or drive to shopping, dining, and other attractions, such as the stadium where the Bucs play.

Jeter purchased two adjacent lots in Tampa in 2005 and 2006, and commissioned a 30,000-square-foot mansion in the style of an English manor. Completed in 2011, the walled, waterfront estate on 1.25 acres provides security, privacy, and luxury.

At just under 22,000 square feet, the spread is the largest residence in South Tampa, and includes seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, and eight half-bathrooms.

With almost 9,000 square feet of lush landscaping, outdoor porches and balconies, a dock and two boatlifts, a heated spa, and an 80-foot saltwater lap pool, the estate offers the feel of a resort without leaving home.

The double solid hardwood doors lead into an impressive 24-foot foyer with floor-to-ceiling glass, overlooking the fountains, spa, pool, and bay.

The intricate details of the custom home include hardwood millwork, hand-polished Venetian plaster, silk draperies, and mosaic tiles. Highlights include a clubroom with full-service bar, billiards and game table, multiple TVs, and a sitting area.

The eat-in, gourmet kitchen includes two islands and high-end appliances, and is set up for professionals and home cooks alike, with four dishwashers, four sinks, a warming drawer, and walk-in pantry.

The spread also features an “owner’s retreat” with a sitting area, fireplaces, and two custom closets, which opens to a private balcony.

Other high-end perks include a wine cellar, in-home movie theater, professional gym, in-law suite, an au pair wing with a living space and kitchen, outdoor kitchen and grilling area, full home generator, and an air-conditioned garage for six cars.

Now the CEO and part-owner of the Miami Marlins, Jeter has reportedly leased a condo in Coconut Grove since 2017, leaving the Tampa home up for grabs.

“Perhaps Jeter wanted to take advantage of the ultrahot luxury market brought about by the pandemic,” says Ameer, noting that the presence of the Bradys has probably amped up the value of the mansion. “The property likely has the best chance of commanding top dollar now.”

Stephen Gay with Smith & Associates holds the listing.
