Kim Wolfe, host of HGTV’s “Why the Heck Did I Buy This House,” knows a thing or two about rehabbing a less-than-pretty property for buyers who fear they’ve picked up a lemon.
So it makes sense that she took her well-earned interior design and construction experience and applied it to her home in Olmos Park, TX. Wolfe and her husband, Bryan, purchased the four-bedroom, 3.5-bath fixer-upper in 2021 for $550,000.
Now, the impeccably updated property is for sale, and there’s already a buyer. But if the deal falls through, it can be yours for the tidy sum of $1,250,000.

Teal exterior
Blue-green was a big trend in 2022.

In 2022, many design and paint companies chose shades of blue or green for their official Color of the Year, so we can see why Wolfe chose a bold teal color for the home’s exterior.
“This color blends well with the greenery outside and what appear to be a dark gray steel roof and windows,” says color consultant Debra Kling.
Get the look: Homeowners can copy this paint color if “the house they own isn’t too big and it’s roughly symmetrical,” Kling says.
Remember: All colors appear much more magnified when applied to a large surface.
A smaller way to dip your toe into teal is to paint it on a petite spot, such as the front or garage door, mailbox, or back shed.
Wine-hued kitchen cabinets

The paint color Wolfe chose for the kitchen island and cabinets may seem over the top, but it hews closely to some of the biggest color news of the year.
“It’s very much like the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year for 2023, Raspberry Blush,” notes Kling. And it’s about time for saturated colors—reds especially—to make a comeback.
“Color popularity is cyclical, and it seems like it’s time for our personalities and quirks to shine at home after so much ‘neutralizing’ or ‘graying’ of our interiors,” Kling explains.
Another benefit to a wine-red kitchen? “This shade stimulates the appetite and is very welcome in a sea of all-white kitchens.”
Get the look: Not sure about this paint? Try the color out on a small appliance like the toaster. Or use it on dish towels or wall art.
‘Grandmillennial’ wallpaper
Both large- and small-scale floral wallpaper prints are trending.

Wallpaper in general is popular right now. But these vintage patterns, like the one Wolfe chose for the dining area, are making a resurgence as well thanks to the “grandmillennial” design trend.
“This trend and others in the house are also very period-appropriate to the 1930s pedigree of the home,” says Pamela O’Brien, principal designer at Pamela Hope Designs.
Get the look: Start with an accent wall of paper to see if this trend is for you, suggests O’Brien. You could also put fun wallpaper on the backs of bookshelf bays or line the inside of a walk-in closet with it. Or try a temporary look by using one of the many peel-and-stick options on the market.
Checkerboard tile
A retro look that’s back once more.

You can’t open your Instagram account or scroll Pinterest without seeing a checkerboard pattern on bathroom floors, area rugs, and smaller kitchen accessories like bowls and serving ware.
Wolfe likely chose to go all-in on the checkerboard trend with the tile in the bathroom because it’s easy to install and meshes well with other design details.
Get the look: “Homeowners might try this look on their kitchen backsplash or on the floor of a powder room,” says O’Brien.
Curvy furniture
Curvy armchairs are hot in the interior design world.

Get the look: “A new chair with this rounded profile will update any living area or bedroom,” says O’Brien.
