In Chicago’s tony Lincoln Park neighborhood, lies an astonishing 25,000-square-foot mansion. Priced at $29,999,995, the estate is clearly at the top of the Windy City’s housing stock.

This six-bedroom, 11-bath home clocks in as the most expensive listing in Illinois. But it’s also a rare find in the city, according to listing agent Matt Leutheuser, of Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty.

“They’ve put eight [city] lots together,” he says. “I don’t think you could do that today.”

He adds that the parcel alone is worth $20 million.

The sellers bought the land in 2005 and spent five years building the lavish, limestone-exterior house.

“You have the privacy and no eyes on you, and you get this west-facing, natural light,” Leutheuser says.

Deluxe domicile

In addition to its lush gardens, reflection pool, fountains, music room, library, and a pavilion, the standout estate boasts top-quality finishes.

“It’s basically newer construction materials sourced from Europe,” Leutheuser says.

For example, two 1,000-pound, bronze entryway doors are inlaid with marble from the French Pyrenees.

In the rotunda nearby, a statement-making staircase is born out of bronze and 22-karat gold.

Modeled after the Great Stable of Versailles, the 5,000-bottle wine cellar has a 14-foot ceiling and ample space to host tastings, according to the listing.

Other custom details include gold and platinum hardware, imported stone, and 18th-century light fixtures.

In the primary, third-floor bedroom suite, there is a custom dressing room and two marble-clad, en suite baths. And the handcarved, English-marble fireplace makes for the perfect amenity on cold Chicago nights.

A 2,000-square-foot, wraparound terrace, outdoor kitchen, wood-burning fireplace, and grilling station add a healthy dose of open-air opulence to the property.

Two main-level, guest bedroom suites overlook the gardens. A game room, media room, project room, and sitting room—all adjacent to the terrace—are also situated on the main level.

The listing includes a three-car, attached garage—another uncommon amenity in Chicago. Any additional vehicles can be stored in the gated motor court.

And if the buyer wants to hire a house manager, there’s room in the staff living space. The home also has a security room and home-automation control center.

‘Urban sanctuary’

Leutheuser believes an offer is likely to come from someone with ties to the area.

“It’s going to be a local buyer that’s here full time, for the most part, and probably has a family that likes that open space and also loves to entertain,” he predicts.

The high-demand neighborhood along Lake Michigan, five miles north of downtown Chicago, continues to attract luxury-minded buyers. Good schools and beachfront access make the area even more irresistible.

“Lincoln Park is considered one of the premier neighborhoods in Chicago, and this block is one of the best in the city for high-end residential,” Leutheuser says. “It’s a completely private, urban sanctuary.”
