It’s not a mirage. This really is a desert oasis, and it’s had quite the transformation.

The current owners of the minimalist Artesia Residence in Desert Hot Springs, CA, have reimagined the 1,609-square-foot dwelling.

The original house was built in 1976 as a midcentury geomorphic home. The redone residence is now a turnkey dream, with two bedrooms and 2.5 baths. It is listed for $1.55 million.

“It’s a very zen vibe as you walk through the property,” explains listing agent Simon Mills, of Mills Realty.

He notes the home’s wood ceilings and stone countertops and appraises the perfectly sunlit kitchen as a “central point of the property.”

“Everything has been redone, and every surface has been changed,” Mills says, revealing that the ceiling beams are made of Douglas Fir, and the walls are crafted from natural limestone. “It’s totally move-in ready.”

The minimalist retreat is set on 6.5 acres of desert land, bordered by trees.

“It’s very quiet and very relaxing,” Mills says. “There are no neighbors around you. No traffic around you. You’re in an incredibly peaceful environment.”

While private, the retreat is only about 15 minutes from Palm Springs, Mills says.

“It’s not in the middle of nowhere, but it’s definitely secluded,” he explains.

Behind the home, the property is anchored by a showstopping saltwater pool and hot tub.

“You’re literally in the middle of the desert, sitting in a pool of water with a great hot tub,” Mills says. “When you’re in it, and there’s just the desert surroundings around you, it’s very tranquil.”

The home has solar panels, an EV charging station, and the potential to be off-grid—a well on the property could serve as a water source.

The current owners have used the home themselves and as a vacation rental. The listing notes that rental income could exceed $50,000.

“I would say the perfect buyer is someone who wants to spend a few months out of the year in the desert and then rent it out the rest of the year,” Mills says.
