Horror Fans, Take Note: The Pennsylvania Farmhouse in Upcoming Flick ‘The Veil’ Is on the Market for $950K

Realtor.com

Looking for something historical with a side of spooky? Then you just might be interested in the hauntingly beautiful farmhouse located at 946 Goram Rd. in Brogue, PA.  It’s listed for $950,000.

The atmospheric abode holds a key role in Cameron Beyl’s horror film, “The Veil,” set to hit theaters in 2023. A preview of the flick notes that the cinematic story incorporates science fiction and mystery, and promises “intrigue and strange enigmas.”

The restored stone farmhouse, which is the main setting of the film, is one of the oldest in the region. It was built in the late 1700s and used for many years as a wheat mill.

Original farm equipment can still be found throughout the property’s three buildings, which include the main house, the garage, and a Scottish-Irish log barn. There’s a grand total of nine bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.

6 Things Recent Homebuyers Can’t Stand About Their Bathroom

Getty Images

Buyer’s remorse comes in many forms. In the aftermath of the most recent real estate rush, many homebuyers who were willing to compromise their priorities are now wishing they hadn’t been so lax about things like their down payment budget or paying way over the asking price.

And a recent study found that 1 in 4 first-time homebuyers who purchased a home in 2021 and 2022 regrets buying a property that needs too much maintenance.

As it turns out, underlying maintenance problems can manifest quite quickly in the bathroom. It’s a room that gets a lot of use.

So after enough time, red flags that were simply overlooked during the buying process—or viewed as minor fixes—eventually become major annoyances or problems.

What Goes Up Must Come Down: The Pandemic Era’s Hottest Markets Are Leading the U.S. in Price Reductions

Photo-Illustration by Realtor.com / Getty Images (2)

For those looking to sell their home, many have been forced to face the fact that they won’t get the price they’d dreamed of receiving anytime soon.

To close sales, more sellers are dropping asking prices than at any point in the past few years. The portion of homes on the market with at least one markdown is now outpacing even pre-pandemic years. Buyers simply can’t afford these high price tags now that mortgage interest rates have shot up.

In some parts of the country, as many as half of the homes on the market have had their price cut, making up, at least partly, for the higher monthly payment resulting from the currently hiked interest rates.

So where can buyers find the most discounted homes? And where do sellers need to be more realistic with their asking prices?

12 Details You Can’t Afford To Miss When Buying a Brand-New Home

Getty Images

There are a variety of reasons many homebuyers prefer purchasing a brand-new home instead of an older home.

Some love the idea of moving into a home that’s never been lived in by anyone else. (Think of that crowd as the “new-car smell” aficionados of homeownership.) Others relish the opportunity to put their personal stamp on a home—tailoring the model, layout, and finishes to their particular tastes.

And then there’s the segment of buyers who are simply turned off by older homes that will likely require work and upkeep. They assume—rightly in most cases—that a newly built home will mean lower maintenance costs.

However, if you have your eye on a new home because you expect absolute perfection from Day One, think again. New-home buyers must be prepared for issues that might arise, according to John Heidenry, managing partner at Red Bridge Condos, in Hoboken, NJ. He has been building luxury homes for nearly two decades.

She paid around $89,900 for the 1,814-square-foot abode for the Gaineses’ “Fixer Upper” show on HGTV. The three-bedroom, one-bath fixer-upper—or the “Cottage Bungalow,” as Chip dubbed it—needed extreme TLC.

‘We’re Going Bigger Than Ever’: Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall Come Together for a Final ‘Flip or Flop’

HGTV

For those of you who thought you’d seen the last of Tarek El Moussa and Christina Hall working together on “Flip or Flop,” surprise—they’re back!

These two have returned for one more episode, titled “Flip or Flop: The Final Flip,” where they renovate a four-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2200-square-foot house in Sunset Beach, CA. They’d bought this property way back in 2020 for $925,000, figuring they could spend $200,000 to renovate it, and then sell it for about $1.5 million.

But that was two years, a bitter breakup, and a few new reality shows and spouses ago.

While they congenially worked together on the flip itself, it was not lost on us that they didn’t appear together in the interviews and commentary on the project. They spoke separately about everything they learned on the show over the past 10 years.

More than any other room in the home, the bathroom is a place where homeowners can let their design imagination run wild. It’s a space to try out new trends, experiment with bold colors, and embrace unique architectural details. Guests appreciate a powder room adorned in a fashion-forward wallpaper or a statement tile. For this week’s trending Instagram decor, we decided to lean into the bold and the beautiful. Below, you’ll find five glamorous bathroom designs that are equal parts popular and refreshing.

1. All-blue bathroom

One simple way to bring a sophisticated design perspective to your bathroom is to pick a singular color and let it shine. The bathroom above from @elizabethhaydesign does a great job of illustrating this technique.

“Opt for vibrant tones in the bathroom such as blue, emerald, and rich purple to establish a striking, elegant atmosphere,” says Diana Viera, managing partner of Miami-based design firm Italkraft. “Balance darker shades with neutral colors like cream and beige, and accessorize with metallic decor accents for brightness.”

Photo-Illustration by Realtor.com / Getty Images (2)

With Thanksgiving behind us and much Christmas merriment ahead, one might presume that home shoppers have shelved their house hunt until the new year. But no, the housing market is as hopping as ever—and even full of surprises of late.

“Housing data in the week that includes the Thanksgiving holiday show that the housing market continues to evolve, but not always as expected,” explains Realtor.com® Chief Economist Danielle Hale in her weekly analysis.
